Feedback from Students

Fall 2023

Anonymous MATH-120 student: “I love the lectures which makes the class way easier to understand. I also love the grading on the tests which is very fair (if you get the problem wrong, you don’t lose all [the points])”

Anonymous MATH-130 student: “Very understanding of a student’s life in this time and multiple opportunities for students to be successful in course work. Great pace and fully engages with us during lecture. Talks with us, not at us.”

Summer 2024

Anonymous MATH-130 online student: “Math courses can definitely be a bit intimidating, particularly in the instances where one hasn’t taken a math course in excess of 10 or more years. That was my biggest concern coming in, but honestly if one is willing to take the time to go through each and every lecture and take notes Professor Stewart goes above and beyond in explaining everything. He doesn’t just do the example problems and if you get it good, and if you don’t ‘too bad’ he goes through each step methodically and makes sure everyone who is tuning in to the lectures gets the opportunity to write everything down and/or ask questions. We had a set schedule twice a week where we had the opportunity to come in zoom to ask him any questions and he was always happy to answer them all. Also, he made sure that we knew that at any point in his available scheduling he would make a 1 on 1 zoom meeting or in person if it was during applicable office hours. I would highly recommend his course to anybody who is unsure about their math abilities and who needs this class towards their degree. I genuinely feel so much more prepared for any upcoming math course I have to do for my bachelor’s degree and the foundation I got from this class definitely has prepared me to tackle just about anything pertaining to higher level math.”

Fall 2024

Anonymous MATH-140 online student: “The most beneficial [aspect of the course] was when the professor would grade our tests and give feedback on every single question we answered. He would also post a discussion a few days prior to the test to see if there were any questions or problems we need clarification on. He was very supportive and encouraging.”

Anonymous MATH-170 online student: “The professor had not only a great understanding of the material they were teaching, but a fantastically organized class. Honestly, did he take lessons from the Accounting department because outside of Accounting I have not seen a canvas shell so organized and easy to understand! Thank you for this Prof Mitchell as it helped ease my stress and anxiety with everything being clearly visible and no surprise due dates.”

Winter 2025

Anonymous MATH-150 student: “Professor Mitchell is an amazing instructor. He provides us with all of the resources we need to be successful; he’s not intimidating and very welcoming when it comes to asking questions and for help. Every math class I need for my degree, I always look for his name; he’s amazing!”

Fall 2025

Anonymous MATH-115 student: “The most helpful features of the course, is Professor Stew’s personality and willingness to explain and provide answers for any questions; he provides clear and concise feedback, and is supportive if I have any questions or if any personal issues occurred.”

Anonymous MATH-140 online student: “Professor [Stew] was very responsive, easy to reach with an email. Fast responses, and actually answered any questions needed about content or just about the course. I liked how he included the lecture and the notes, sometimes I wouldn’t have time to fully watch the lecture videos so I could just stay caught up with the notes and I found that very helpful. Very nice and helpful professor. And loved all the extra credit opportunities!”

Anonymous MATH-170 online student: “The fact the instructor knows how to keep people engaged in learning mathematics online speaks volumes to me. Goes through complex algebraic manipulations with a tablet hardly making any mistakes also speaks volumes. And Professor Mitchell is completely willing to work with students to make for sure we are able to achieve our goals in the class.”

Winter 2026

Anonymous MATH-118 online student: “Math has always been difficult for me. Stew took the time to meet with me multiple times. He is genuinely one of the best teachers I have ever had the pleasure of learning from. He was always helpful, mindful and considerate. If I could take every course from him, I certainly would. He was always on time and well prepared and made sure the understanding was there.”

Anonymous MATH-150 online student: “I love the way Mr. Mitchell teaches this class. All of the resources are given and [expectations] are set from the beginning. This class is challenging for me and I feel that it is up to me to ensure I pass. The homework is very similar to the tests and it makes the transition from online to in–class very similar.”
